The Cyprus digital nomad visa is for non-EU and non-EEA nationals who work remotely — for an employer registered abroad or for their own foreign clients — and can show net income of at least €3,500 a month. It buys you legal residence in Cyprus without touching the local labour market. What it does not buy: any right to work for Cyprus companies. Status as of July 2026: the scheme is open, with an official cap of 500 permits.

The 2026 status, stated plainly

Because this scheme has a history of caps and pauses, the current position matters more than the brochure version:

  • Open. Applications are being accepted; the Deputy Ministry confirmed the scheme’s continuation in March 2025.
  • Capped at 500. The Migration Department’s official page, updated 31 December 2025, states that the maximum number of permits “remains at 500”. The scheme launched in 2021 with a cap of 100, raised to 500 in March 2022.
  • Rumours of 1,000 — unconfirmed. During 2025 several advisory blogs reported a rise to 1,000 permits. The official page contradicts this. We treat 500 as the operative number and re-check the source before every filing.

A capped scheme can close between your decision and your application. That argues for filing sooner rather than later — or for choosing a route without a cap.

Who qualifies

  • Nationality: non-EU / non-EEA citizens.
  • Work: performed remotely, using telecommunications, for an employer registered outside Cyprus — or through your own company or clients abroad. Self-employed with a foreign client base fits; job-seeking locally does not.
  • Income: at least €3,500 per month net of taxes and contributions, evidenced properly.
  • Family: spouse and children can join for the same period, with no right to work or economic activity in Cyprus.

On evidence: the threshold is net, which means the file has to reconcile contracts, invoices, payslips and bank statements into one coherent story. Applications rarely fail on the number itself — they fail on income that is real but reads as irregular on paper.

What it deliberately does not allow

No Cyprus employment, no Cyprus clients, no local business activity. This is the line people cross by accident: a contract with one local customer, a director role in a friend’s Cypriot company, invoicing a Limassol startup “just once”. Each of those puts you outside the permit’s terms and gives the authorities a reason at renewal time. If Cyprus-facing work is where you are heading, change routes rather than stretching this one — the work permit through your own company exists for exactly that.

Duration and what comes after

The permit runs one year, renewable for a further two. It is a medium-term instrument, not a settlement track. People who stay usually transition: founders localise the business and switch to the foreign-interest company route; investors move to permanent residency under Reg. 6(2); some simply bridge gaps with a visitor pink slip between statuses. Planning the second status early is cheaper than improvising it when the renewal clock runs out.

The tax side

The Migration Department’s own guidance says it directly: stay more than 183 days in a tax year and — unless you remain tax resident elsewhere — you become a Cyprus tax resident. For many applicants that is the actual goal: Cyprus tax residency plus non-dom status is a strong combination for people living on dividends and foreign income. But it should be a decision, not an accident. One fit note: the 60-day residency route leans on Cyprus employment or directorship ties — exactly what this visa does not permit — so nomads who become tax residents generally do it the 183-day way. Read the 183-day and 60-day rules and decide which side of them you want to be on before you book the year.

If the nomad visa doesn’t fit

  • Income below the threshold or hard to evidence → the pink slip: no work rights at all, but a lower, differently-structured financial test.
  • Cyprus-facing business plans → the foreign-interest company work permit: your own company sponsors you, family gets labour-market access.
  • Capital rather than salaryPR by investment: permanent status, no employment.
  • EU passport in the family → the yellow slip changes everything; check it first.

How we run it

  1. Fit check: income evidence, employer/client geography, family plans — and whether this is really the right route.
  2. Status verification against the official source on the day we file, cap included.
  3. The application file: contracts, income proof, insurance, housing, translations.
  4. Filing and biometrics scheduled; family applications in parallel.
  5. A tax-residency plan for the year, so day counts land where you want them.

Frequently asked questions

How much income do I need for the Cyprus digital nomad visa?
A net income of at least €3,500 per month — after taxes and contributions — from work performed remotely for an employer registered outside Cyprus or for your own clients abroad. The figure comes from the Migration Department's official scheme conditions, and evidencing it cleanly (contracts, payslips, bank statements) is most of the application.
Is the Cyprus digital nomad visa still available in 2026?
Yes. As of July 2026 the scheme is open and accepting applications, and the official Migration Department page — updated 31 December 2025 — states the cap remains 500 permits. Some advisers reported plans for a higher cap during 2025; nothing official confirms that, so treat any other number as unverified and check the live status before filing.
Can I work for Cypriot companies on the digital nomad visa?
No. The permit exists precisely for work performed remotely for employers or clients outside Cyprus. Taking local employment or serving Cyprus clients puts you outside its terms. If your work is heading toward Cyprus — your own company here, local contracts — the right route is a work permit through a foreign-interest company.
How long can I stay in Cyprus as a digital nomad?
The permit is issued for one year and can be renewed for a further two. Family members receive residence for the same period, without the right to work or carry out economic activity in Cyprus. Beyond that horizon, staying usually means switching routes — a work permit through your own company, or permanent residency.
Will I become a Cyprus tax resident on this visa?
You can. The scheme's own guidance flags it: spend more than 183 days in Cyprus in a tax year and — unless you remain a tax resident of another state — you become a Cyprus tax resident. That is often a feature, not a bug, but it should be planned. The tax residency page explains the tests.
